About This Site

Free self-employment tax calculators, tailored to your specific line of work — so you get an estimate that reflects the deductions and income patterns of your profession, not a generic guess.

Why we built this

Generic tax calculators treat every self-employed person the same. But a rideshare driver's biggest deduction is mileage, a photographer's is equipment, and a freelance writer's is a home office. When a calculator ignores those, the estimate is off — and people either overpay or get surprised at tax time.

So we built a dedicated calculator for each profession, with that job's specific deductions and common mistakes baked in. Currently we cover 50 professions, and we keep adding more.

How the calculators work

Each tool estimates your U.S. federal self-employment tax (15.3% — Social Security + Medicare), federal income tax, and state income tax based on the numbers you enter, then shows your suggested quarterly estimated payment and its due dates. All math runs in your browser — nothing you type is sent to us or stored.

Important: estimates only

These calculators provide estimates for educational purposes only. They are not tax advice and cannot account for every detail of your situation (filing status, dependents, credits, multi-state income, entity structure, and more). Tax rules also change year to year. Always confirm with a qualified tax professional before making decisions or payments.

How we keep the lights on

The calculators are free. Some pages include affiliate links to tax and accounting tools we think are genuinely useful to self-employed people; if you sign up through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. See our Privacy Policy for details.
